AAD 2026 opened with a significant new vehicle debut as Paramount unveiled its latest light armoured vehicle, the Mbada 4×4, at the Africa Aerospace and Defence exhibition at AFB Waterkloof.
With the cover officially off, Paramount, alongside its partners at Kalyani Strategic Systems India, presented the Mbada to the public for the first time at Stand SPW17.
Developed for operators requiring high mobility, adaptability and the ability to operate in demanding environments, the Mbada 4×4 represents the next step in Paramount’s approach to light armoured vehicle design.
The new platform has been developed around the changing requirements of modern military and security operations, where mobility, survivability, mission flexibility and the rapid integration of new technologies are increasingly important.
The unveiling generated strong interest throughout the opening day of AAD 2026, with visitors and industry representatives engaging with the Paramount team to learn more about the new vehicle and its capabilities.
Paramount has established an international reputation for the design and manufacture of advanced armoured vehicles intended for challenging operating environments. Its portfolio includes the Mbombe 4, Mbombe 6 and Mbombe 8, as well as the Marauder, Maatla, Maverick and Marshall platforms.
These vehicles have been developed for a broad range of applications, including military operations, peacekeeping, border security, internal security and other specialised missions.
The Mbada builds on the experience gained through Paramount’s development and production of vehicles for customers operating in some of the world’s most demanding environments.
According to Paramount, the new-generation vehicle reflects an evolution of its armoured vehicle philosophy, with its design focused on the requirements of the future battlefield.
Modern military operations increasingly demand platforms capable of adapting to changing missions while maintaining mobility and protection. The ability to integrate new technologies rapidly is also becoming an increasingly important consideration as defence forces modernise their capabilities.
The Mbada 4×4 has therefore been positioned as a platform designed with these requirements in mind, combining mobility, survivability and adaptability while providing a foundation for the integration of evolving technologies and mission systems.
Its public debut at AAD 2026 marks another addition to Paramount’s growing family of armoured vehicles and highlights the continued development of South Africa’s indigenous defence vehicle industry.
With the Mbada now officially unveiled, attention will turn to the vehicle’s future development, potential applications and the interest it generates among military and security operators at AAD 2026 and beyond.
