The 2026 African Aerospace and Defence (AAD) Expo at Air Force Base Waterkloof served as a pivotal backdrop for high-level bilateral diplomacy, underscoring the enduring and vital defence partnership between Sweden and South Africa. Against a landscape of rapidly evolving global security requirements and technological innovation, delegation members from Stockholm and Pretoria engaged in constructive, forward-looking discussions designed to chart the future of their shared security initiatives and defence-industrial ties.

Throughout the week, the visiting Swedish delegation participated in an intensive series of high-level engagements with leadership spanning South Africa’s Department of Defence (DoD) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

These engagements brought together key decision-makers to align strategic operational priorities, streamline institutional training frameworks and explore future capabilities. Formal dialogues were conducted with the Deputy Minister of Defence, the Secretary for Defence, the Chief of Army, the Deputy Chief of Navy, the Deputy Chief of Air Force and representatives from the South African Training Command.

These comprehensive talks reaffirmed a deeply rooted shared commitment to defence cooperation, capability development and continued collaboration in support of broader international security goals. Grounded in mutual respect and shared strategic interests, the relationship between Sweden and South Africa builds upon decades of trusted cooperation, particularly in sophisticated aerospace platforms and defence technologies.

As the curtain falls on a highly productive week at AAD, both nations have reinforced that their collaborative foundation remains a resilient anchor for regional stability, defence innovation and long-term security partnership.
